Coober Pedy

Even through we rolled into the town of Coober Pedy at the very end of the day, the oppressively hot desert air was hard to ignore.  The entire town was designed exactly for that heat though as nearly every hotel and many of the residential homes are largely built underground.  Well-known as the opal mining capital of the world, Coober Pedy was interesting to visit, but definitely not someplace I could live.  It was hard to even stay one night in a hotel room without a window!  (But we got to visit a kangaroo orphanage and rescue site, so it was worth it.)
