Great Zimbabwe City Ruins

We visited the Great Zimbabwe National Monument a few days ago, designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.  It was believed to be a royal palace and historians believe it took over 300 years to construct all three main sections of the city.  They didn't use mortar anywhere and simply cut and stacked the rocks to fit perfectly together.  We explored it on a rainy and drizzly afternoon which gave it an air of mystery.  You could almost imagine thousands of villagers roaming the stone walkways as baboons bounced from tree to tree...I found these lovebird baboons sitting together under a picnic table to escape the rain...
