The Markets
On a few occasions over the past month, we've had the chance to visit several local markets, where people are selling everything from clothing to food to wares. At every visit, we were the only white people around and one afternoon, we very nearly scared a little 2-3 year old girl to tears because she had never seen a white person in her life. Her mother and friends were laughing and welcomed us over. Eventually we got the little girl to at least wave at us, even if she never smiled...It's actually been a common occurrence that we are the only white people everywhere we go. It feels very noticeable and I have a whole new appreciation for what that might feel like back in the U.S.
